A Rookie Mistake: Boosting Posts

Rookie Mistake

If you are relatively new to running ads on Meta, this one is for you.

"Boosting posts is the lazy persons way of running Meta Ads and almost always results in you losing money."

I’ve audited hundreds of different online stores and many different Meta ad accounts.

Today I wanted to share one key mistake that I see startup brands and retailers making all the time: boosting posts.

Typically I see this when founders are running their own ads, or they’ve got a ‘social media person’ to run ads for them.

Generally what it looks like is an occasional boost of different posts from the social feed.

Sometimes they’ll have a sale offer running so they’ll boost a post to advertise this.

Why Boosting Posts Is Not Recommended?

Here’s why boosting posts is not recommended:

#1: You have very limited control over who sees your ads

#2: You have very limited visibility of Return on Ad Spend (ROAS) or Cost per Acqusition (CPA)

#3: You get very little information on how to improve your campaigns

Then What Should You Do Instead?

To avoid making this mistake, you need to go ahead and set up your Business Portfolio.

The Business Portfolio is like the filing cabinet that contains all of your advertising settings, pages and accounts to successfully run ads on the Meta platform.

You can set this up for your business now at 👉 business.facebook.com

Log in with your account and follow the steps outlined here:

🔗How to set up your Meta Business Portfolio

If you’re relatively proficient with computers, this should take you no more than 20 minutes to get setup. You can then start running future ad campaigns from your Ads Manager like a pro (I’ll cover this in a future newsletter, or you can reply to this email if you want some help)

Even at the very least, setup your Business Portfolio while continuing to Boost posts so that once you’re ready to level up, you have everything you need to make a start.

TL;DR

  • Stop boosting posts.
  • Instead set up your Meta Business Portfolio and Ad Account.
  • Start running campaigns from your ad account.
